Endodontics / root canals

Large cavities, infections or trauma can lead to a painful infection of the nerve, also known as an abscess. In a root canal, the infected nerve, which lies within the roots of the tooth, is removed and replaced with a filling called gutta percha. It’s a treatment that saves the tooth, which is ideal both in terms of function and cosmetics.

The procedure is done under a local anaesthetic (although other sedation options are available). Root canals take about an hour to an hour and a half, and are generally comfortable (despite their bad reputation).
