Google your dentist

Looking for a new computer? A new pasta recipe your family will like? A place to print your photos? Chances are, the first place you turn for info is Google. It’s the best tool for finding anything and everything you need – including a dentist who’s the right fit for you and your family.

An online search is a great way of finding out more about a dentist you’re considering, or even about the dentist you’re already seeing. Here’s what you can find out:

1. Contact info. Google will help you locate all the dentists in your area and tell you how to get in touch with them. But don’t stop there – there’s a lot more you can learn online.

2. The culture of the office. A dentist’s website will tell you a lot about what the office is like. Is it slick and professional or homey and warm? Is there information about the staff? References to your comfort? Is the site about you and your experience as a patient, or is it all about the dentist and his or her professional credentials?

3. What other people think. If the dentist you’re Googling has been reviewed on www.ratemds.com, that info will probably come up in a search. Find out about other people’s experiences – it’s a great way to get “real” information that’s not marketing speak.

4. How tech savvy the dentist is. Can’t find ANY info about the dentist online (or only minimal stuff)? That could be a sign that the dentist isn’t quite with the times – and if his or her online presence isn’t up to snuff, then it’s possible other things in the office might not be up to date either.

Next time you Google a dentist (or any health care provider, for that matter), keep these tips in mind. It’s a great way to help ensure you’ll end up with a quality professional with up-to-date skills and an approach that fits your needs.
